Design, Light, and Material: Interview with Studio Batoni
Studio Batoni, founded in 1995 by architect Fabrizio Batoni in Colle di Val d'Elsa, is distinguished by its fusion of modernity and artisanal tradition. This philosophy emphasizes attention to detail, material selection, and the study of forms and proportions.
In an interview, the Tuscan studio shares its insights on how light and design can transform spaces into engaging and immersive experiences, with a particular focus on materiality.
Pure features a cylindrical column made of Corian® or marble that seamlessly integrates with a goblet-shaped sink equipped with lighting, creating a pleasant and refined atmosphere. Award-Winning product of Big See Product Design Award 2024.
What was the main inspiration behind the creation of the Pure sink?
The search for purity in a composition of forms and materials.
The project involves the use of different materials. What motivated this choice?
Our goal was to unite various materials, transforming them into “Pure.” The use of transparent colored resins and natural stones allowed us to create a product that combines aesthetics and practicality, delivering a strong visual impact while also being functional.
"In the design process, we prioritized the well-being and comfort of users, both visually and sensorially".
"We want to create spaces that are aesthetically pleasing, but also smart, functional, and focused on well-being".
How does the design of Pure stand out compared to other products on the market?
The washbasin is conceived as a sculptural and multi-material element; its ergonomic shape ensures comfortable and practical use, while the integrated lighting enhances the user experience without compromising the cleanliness of the lines.
What reaction do you hope to evoke in customers and users?
We expect a reaction that goes beyond mere aesthetic admiration, engaging them in a complete emotional and sensory experience that combines beauty, innovation, and functionality.
What was your reaction upon receiving an international recognition like the Big See Design Award 2024?
It was an incredibly rewarding and meaningful experience. This recognition validates our creative vision, represents a reward for the dedication and hard work we've put in, and inspires us to continue exploring new horizons in the world of design.
